Something magical happens in Mary Ross Waterfront Park on the second and fourth Saturday of the month. It’s a happy, laid back place where you can grab a cup of coffee, chat with friendly people, eat something yummy and shop for the next week all while your knives are getting sharpened by Wallace at Rev’s Edge. This is the Forward Brunswick Farmer’s Market and it’s changing the way people think about food. Here you know where your food comes from, you can talk to the farmer who likely picked it that morning.
With anywhere from 10-15 vendors to choose from, good food is around every corner. From the incredible bread creations of SourBrough Zack to Yasmyne’s Kitchen and Garden‘s legendary Cinnabuns or Ms. Lynda’s cupcakes you’re definitely going to want to come hungry. The bread sells out fast so be sure and get here early. The farmer’s market hours are 9am – 1pm.
It’s like a fun party down here on Saturday mornings where people come down. You get your coffee. You get your breakfast. You get your groceries. We catch up and ask people how their week’s been going.
— Jamie Gamby, Farmer’s Market Manager
To me, the star of the show is the impressive haul of produce. It’s all so fresh and so beautiful. It makes you never want to shop at a grocery store again. The prices are more than reasonable, because you’re cutting out the middle man (they even have a 2-4-1 deal on EBT). And the important thing is that you’re standing and talking face to face with the farmer. There’s no guessing how your food was grown. And most of these farmers are Certified Naturally Grown which means the food is grown without synthetic chemicals or GMO’s.

Andy Douglas from Crossroad Farm and Garden in Alma, GA has been pursuing his passion for about 10 years now, and we are so happy he is a regular vendor at the market. A Certified Naturally Grown farm, everything that they bring is so fresh and healthy looking and you can taste the freshness after you get home. They specialize in lettuce mixes and seasonal greens, but they always have a variety of favorites. I’m writing this in late May as they were offering up kale, collards, Swiss chard, beets, carrots, potatoes, green onions, zucchini, yellow squash and microgreens – all fresh from the earth and so amazing. If you want some gorgeous flowers from Crossroad (yes, you do) you’ll need to get there early. They usually sell out in a couple of hours.
Watch the 10 minute episode below and be sure to set aside some time on your Saturday mornings on the second and fourth Saturday. You’ll be so glad you did. And, as always, tell em Brunswick Eats sent ya!
